Go Green And Save Green With A Wood Stove!

Did you know that wood stoves don’t just look good in the firelight, but are actually good for the environment and often much cheaper than using central heat in your home? Some people are quick to dismiss wood stoves as just a decorative feature in the home, but in reality they are a very practical and economical choice to heat an apartment or even an average sized home. This makes a great deal of sense when considering the astronomical prices of gas these days, but it still needs to be pointed out to all too many people. Wood burning stoves are not some ancient relic of the past, they may very well be the wave of the future if gas keeps getting more expensive.

The key reason for both the affordable price and environmental benefits of a wood stove rest in one key area: the wood! Unlike with oil, wood is both plentiful and easily accessible to the average person. This makes it very difficult for a few small companies to monopolize the resource and restrict the supply in order to raise prices, and doesn’t allow for foolish factors like oil speculation. Many people can literally pick up their firewood for the night on the walk home from the store, and others can have cords delivered or purchase compressed wood pellets to burn instead.

Unlike oil, burning wood is both carbon neutral and easily replenished. Wood releases very few emissions when it is burned, and those it does release can simply be re-fed to the fire to make it burn even hotter. Replenishing wood is as simple as planting new seeds and giving them time to grow, something that tree farms all over the country have been practicing for years–where do you think your Christmas tree came from? In fact, across the board wood burning stoves are just much more green (and save you more green) than traditional gas furnaces.
